Judging.......

While in church today...I found myself thinking of how we judge people....all the time. I think it's part of the human condition. To be free of it....we must recognize that is what we are doing, and consciously decide not to do it. You see none of us know what is in another person's heart. None of us know the suffering, or tradegy they have endured. It is so easy to think that some people are just "bad" and that is all there is to it.

When we think this way.....judgementally.....we can damage so many innocent people. We turn lives upside down, and make these people live in a hell, tortured.....because we have judged them guilty....and we have determined there is a price to pay for this guilt.

When we are faced with decisions and problems...the first place we look is to our hearts. We ask that God give us wisdom, and help us in making the right decision. So...in that case....even if we make the wrong decision.....our conscience is clear....because we honestly did what we felt was right at the time. Sometimes we make one mistake.....sometimes we make 50 mistakes, and sometimes we make 350 mistakes. However, if each and everytime we have done our best, we have acted in good faith, how are we guilty? Are we guilty because we can not see into the future? Are we guilty because we can not see into another man's heart? Are we guilty because we have trusted the wrong people? What is the sin?

If a man has given his life to God, and he has proved himself time and time again by fighting for societies outcasts and undesirables, fighting to let them be treated as equals, fighting for their God given right to respect as a human beings...is this man capable of letting God's most innocent children be hurt through his negligence. I don't think so. In fact, I would say it would be impossible for such a person to do this.

To be innocent, and judged guilty by the newspapers and TV commentators......to lose it all, respect, admiration and love.....has God forsaken him? He must feel that way. That is why today....and everyday let us pray for Cardinal Law. May God's all encompassing love sustain him, and may his heart be at peace. Amen.
