Beautiful story !!!! :-) I guess the most interesting in it is the statement: "the feeling of independence was wonderful". But from the other side it is also true that: "That is not the way God made us." Hopefully we are not that way ??? See your e-mail box :-)

I have a way about me...that I meet people everywhere I go. One day, I went shopping to a large mall, I was stopped at a sidewalk cafe in the mall..for some reason....perhaps there were no seats, I don't recall, but I ended up sitting at a table with two old women. Their husbands had died. I told them how sorry I was, and I felt that they must be very lonely. I was quite surprised by the answer they gave me...at first they said it is very sad. They said they missed them very much. Then after awhile, they said the feeling of independence was wonderful. I was quite surprised. They loved their new found freedom.

However, it is awful to think of old people who live anywhere, USA, England, Poland...... who have no contact at all....with anyone. Maybe they have lost their life long companion through death, their children don't bother with them. Their families are gone...and they have no one. This is where the family of the Church is so important. More than likely these people because of stubborness or some other reason, have driven the people away from them. Maybe they were hurtful, demanding, mean spirited, whatever. Whatever they were, the Family of the Church welcomes them. It is not for us to preach to them, but to smile at them. To lend a helping hand, to invite them to take part in Church gatherings and services. For whatever these people did....it is not for us to judge them. When you think not of yourself.....but of others.....you will find moments of solitude to be moments of peace and renewal. It is in the silence of our heart that God speaks to us.

Are we strong all the time? No. That is not the way God made us. We need love, we need the human touch, the smiles, the laughter...we thrive with these things....we become our best selves when we have them.

So what is the secret.....know that you are loved always.....first and foremost by God. Know that love multiplies....it grows and grows. When you love others....you are loved in return. It is the way of life. You must live for those special moments....when you can see the smile....and feel the warmth of an embrace.....and the softness of a kiss.

The definition of solitude should be changed to read " a period of time between loving exchanges".....you are never alone, when you are loved.

"Solitude is always worse once you have known companionship".
